My Little City Blog

Nights and days pass in Gotham. Each area is distinct and posing its own reality…coffee shop, pizza parlor, and dry cleaners…all the same but different…in that they create many different realities. This blog is my reality.

Subway Ride To Work

Every time I jump on the subway here in the NYC I wonder how many times I am going to fall in love. I tend to do that to pass the time and the amounts of times I fall in love can vary from 1 to 8. Yes, that is I fall in love 8 times in half an hour. Of course this isn’t love per se, but I pretend my quick visions of beauty are love and who can dispute that.

Today I fell in love twice.

There was this random Indian girl who gets on at my stop. She is tall and slender and probably too tall for me, but she always smiles and says hello. It is more of an acknowledgement that we both ride the train at the same time every day. Seeing her makes me smile and makes me feel a bit like someone else is on my boat of grinding it out daily.

I then fell in love with an older lady. She must have been about 45 but she was in shape. She had this really hip leather jacket and dress on under. Physically she wasn’t a year over 28 with her great legs.

Well when you are forced to be face to face with hundreds and even thousands of people a day you have to do something to pass the time. I suggest you fall in love on the subway a few times.

This post made me think of a folk song I really like. It's by a guy named Robbie Schaefer(?) from the band Eddie from Ohio. The song makes me smile every time I hear it. The guy sees a girl at a stop light and imagines an entire lifetime with her, starting with their meeting at the light. It's this beautiful, perfect life that everyone dreams about, until the light turns green and the fantasy is over.

Chorus:
Falling in love at a stop light
A 30 second one-light stand
Don't tell my girlfriend
She would never understand
