My Little City Blog

Nights and days pass in Gotham. Each area is distinct and posing its own reality…coffee shop, pizza parlor, and dry cleaners…all the same but different…in that they create many different realities. This blog is my reality.

Juan's Party

So much happens in the city during x-mas it's hard to know if you are coming or going. It looks like this year I will be staying in the city. It's not that I don't want to spend time with family during this time of year...truth be told, I just have a lot on my plate and I just seen them for Turkey Day. In any case, there are tons of parties to attend and I ended up going to my buddy Juan's pad for my first holiday party...well I think it was a house warming party/holiday party.

Pre-drinks were done at my place with Beto while watching Tombstone. What can be better than drinking shots and watching Tombstone. And remember, "You ain't no daisy". O.K. so I always wanted to write that line in somewhere. Too bad Danny got the tail end of that via my text messages...what can I say, I was on Doc rush so I started to text him things such as...I'm your Huckleberry.

We get on the horn and for the first time in a long time it seemed like it might be a rockstar night...I'm excited!! Get dressed and meet up with John "The General" Lee and Martiza "AmEx" Sanchez at Calle Ocho...good place for some pre-drinks before we hit Washington Heights for Juan's Party. I appriciated that The General made the trip uptown something he doesn't often do.

Beto and I meet three foreign people on the train and ask them if they want to join us for a drink. As you can tell, the shots are starting to get to us. They surprisingly come along and laugh about how things are so cheap here. Hello!! you are in NYC. Then I remember they are from London and I forget how weak the American dollar is now and they see things as almost half off from where they are from. We get some drinks and food and are off to Juan's.

Get to Juan's and he has so much rum at his place that it's almost gross...but to me it's very refreshing and it tastes good going down. Tony "Gillas" Flores meets us there. We are drinking having a great time. We keep drinking and drinking...then Beto, The General and AmEx break downtown...what can you say, The General can only last so long uptown. So Tony and I take up the fight to continue to drink at Juan's pad...what? The place has emptied out!! Only a few of us left and Juan hasn't asked us to leave yet. We keep drinking and we are chatting about UCLA and working out at the same gym. Juan is funny as hell in an odd way...no big punch-line humor...more like a story humor that has a blunt edge to it. Given that he is so well spoken sometimes the bluntness kind of throws me and makes me laugh.

Tony and I leave Juan's place at 4:00 am and I make some drunk calls to get a roll call on where everyone is at. Come home and see Beto purchased some beers...nice to come home to some cold one's.

It was a good day and first time I really put down some drinks in sometime to be honest. Just made me laugh to be so smashed to be honest, trying to stay away from that life for a while. Minor lapse which wasn't a bad thing. Paid the next day but nothing a soup from Siagon Grill couldn't fix...read my food blog.
