My Little City Blog

Nights and days pass in Gotham. Each area is distinct and posing its own reality…coffee shop, pizza parlor, and dry cleaners…all the same but different…in that they create many different realities. This blog is my reality.

Asian Party

Hot Damn! I went to an Asian party this weekend at Taj here in NYC (no, this was not a gambling venture). What can I say, it was a blast…thanks to the John “The General” Lee who got the scoop on the event. I think this is the first Asian event for The General and myself, for it took us several hours to adjust to the new folk we were around. But first we went to eat sushi at one of our favorite places in the city, Tab Tos.

Dinner was great once again, but now we can’t get the Chef’s Special at this place because it has become too damn popular. I don’t know, The General said that if he calls in advance Uki could hook it up for us. I guess the one thing that really makes me sad is that this place is losing its flava. People are starting to find out about the place so they are flocking there and taking away from it’s mom and pop charm. Serious, now the place doesn’t seem like home anymore. I know, I know, how many Sushi places do you go to where you do feel like you are at home. Well this place was able to do that for me. Sure the price of the Sushi is still very inexpensive for the good…nay, the great quality, but I feel rushed there now.

It hurts me to say this because I know this is The General’s sushi spot. He’s followed Uki from uptown to downtown for his sushi. Yet, I think The General even has to concede that we are no longer the special customers we were.

The Asian party was going on for the most part. Actually, it was really fun and those folks know how to throw down. The General’s homie…can’t recall the name now…but he threw the bash and somehow managed to pack the place. Not sure how these Asians role, but if Mexicans were to try and throw such a big party it wouldn’t happen, at least not here in NYC.

We stayed until the late hours of 4:30 am or so then decided to leave. I tell you, next time I’m there I will take some pictures of the ladies for you all. Hope all is well and enjoy your day…more posts coming soon.

New Roomie Photo

I spoke about my new roomie so I figured I would toss in a picture of her…sure it’s blurry and all. In any case, this is the girl that I helped move into my place on mthe night of my birthday party.

My New Roomie, Katie

Greystone Hotel

First Place I lived in NYC

There are those times when I reflect on life and what it’s brought me. And to be honest, I always feel very blessed. I suppose there are times I wish I could have a few more things, but to be very honest with you, I’m very happy with my life and those things I do desire are very materialistic (in the end I can't them with me). I have an awesome family and friends, a job that pays, and I have my health. Can anyone ask for anything more? In any case, the other night I was on the town and walking by the first place I ever lived in NYC…wow! Talk about throwbacks to who I was and where I've been.

I once read that we should pay homage to all our old apartments in the city. I mean think of all the stories they can share about us if apartments could talk. I don’t know, maybe after passing the Old Greystone I remembered all the people who have graced my life in this city. There are too many to name here, as I’m sure there are for everyone reading. Yet, I think the city presents this rare opportunity to meet people from all over the world who speak different languages and dialects of English at that. I don't know, maybe I just wanted to tell the city thanks and my old apts. thanks and this is my little way of doing it. I can go on and on in a rant about how great NYC is and how it's home to this person and that person, but that's already been done. I just think sometimes we need to sit and think for 5 minutes of how far we have come in this rat race when we so very rarely have time to reflect or enjoy ourselves and our lives.

In closing, I think we should all go and take pictures of the old places we have lived at for memory sake. That’s my challenge to you for your blog and to tell a story that you distinctly remember about that place. I hope all is well and can we have a moment of silence for all our old apartments and that little bit of our old selves we left behind and the new us that we discovered.

Anne and Myself In France

Being in Paris with Anne was one of the best experiences of my life. For those of you who don’t know, Anne and I have known one another since we were kids. What can I say; one of my best friends growing up was an Asian French Girl who I call my favorite Hood Rat. In any case, people have been asking if I’m Asian? I tell them…NO, I’m 100% Mexican. Yet, after seeing this picture I can see how people pin me as such when I run with John and Anne. From this picture in France with Anne you can see my Asianess.

The General Saying Hi

The General Saying Hi, originally uploaded by joaquinochoa.

Here is a picture of John "The General" Lee. I figured you probably wanted to see what this Krazy Korean looked like in person. This is a picture of him on one of his better nights.

Random night with the Junior League

There is so much to get caught up on when it comes to my blogs. I suppose I want to write about the party that I went to with Julie and John “The General” Lee.

First, do you ever get yourself in those positions that you mean not to? For instance, it seems that I’m always helping people move into their apartments. My new roommate was moving in and I was rather excited at the fact that she said she was going to pack a van and move in. I figured I could help with a van move in. Yet, when she arrived she came in full force with a small U-Haul…this wasn’t a van. Lucky for us that Rey got out of work early to come and help. It took us only a few hours of walking up and down our stairs (5 flights) to get everything up there. I then had to run and shower before heading to the party where I was to meet John and Julie.

What can one say about a Jr. League party? I don’t know, a bunch of girls dressed up and getting drunk? I guess you have to like that to a certain extent. Myself, well I would say the party was entertaining to say the least. It was much more fun sitting there with Julie and John drinking and watching people fall over themselves while drinking instead of being at home. What can I say, they enjoy drinking and so do I so there I was drinking Tequila with two of my favorite-drinking buddies.

Then Julie decided to bail on us without saying good-bye. So The General and I only had the bartenders to talk to. I think The General said something to piss her off because she no longer wanted to talk to us the rest of the night. We made a rally call to the after party that just sucked…well so does the East Side for that matter. So we made a run to the West Side. Let’s just say it was happening…cough! cough! Well we made a good bid to lie to one another that a bar with 10 guys to every one girl was a happening night.

The General and I did decide to visit Iceland this coming year. I will let him take care of the details for that and I will just tag along. Oh, we did see a cute girl that had a hat on like Bear Bryant…red and white checks…funny as hell that I thought of The Bear right away. I guess he cemented that look.

We looked for something happening like a rat in the NYC subway looking for some scraps to eat. Yet in the end we found nothing what so ever. Damn! So The General went south and I went north…of course stopping at 96th Street for some tacos from the taco truck.

Here are some pictures from the night:

Miss Universe

I don’t tend to post my friends writings on my posts. Yet, I will do so here in this post. I was speaking to John “The General” Lee the other day via email and he started to mention the girls from Ms. Universe. He had some funny things to say about it so here are his words in three different emails.

The General on Miss Lebanon:
She just might be worth risking being abducted in another hostage crisis
situation

The General on The Donald, the pageant, and the replys the contestants give:
Yikes, the Donald sure knows how to throw these. Almost every one of
those contestants were off the charts, not typical of the miss America
pageant. and i wish these girls would stop coming out and saying things
about charity, community, volunteering, world peace, blah blah blah. we
all know what's really on your agenda, just come out and say,

This was the kicker and one of the funniest emails that I have gotten in years:
"Yeah, I’m looking to use this pageant as a vehicle for landing in new
York city with the hopes of signing on with a modeling agency or being
noticed by a Hollywood agent. in reality, I am a cheap tramp and will
do whatever it takes to get ahead. if that doesn't work, I can always
go to work for scores or crazy horse too. I would also like to find
myself a very wealthy older sugar daddy who doesn't have too much gas left in the tank. And the less family to share the pending estate with, the better. As for world peace, well this world is too populated to begin with so a little skirmish here and there is actually beneficial in the long run. Viva sadaam!"

The General on controvery:
Seriously, can you imagine if one of these contestants said something
like that? She’d lose but she'd gain fame and notoriety instantly and
be set for life. Hefner would be knocking down her door in 2 seconds
